SRMC Men's Club Local Rules
Provisional Balls
-
It is strongly recommended that a provisional ball be played for a ball that may be lost outside of a penalty area; or may be unplayable; or may be out of bounds. Per USGA Rule 18.3 Provisional Ball.
-
Exception: #9 @MC - Hit a provisional ball before establishing if ball is lost in the penalty area
-
Exception: #12 @SR - Hit a provisional ball before establishing if ball is lost in the penalty area
-
Exception: If you hit a ball into a penalty area and you aren't sure if you will find it and\or be able to play it, hit a provisional ball from where your ball initially crossed into the penalty area. As an example, the 6th hole at Saddle Rock, you would probably enter the penalty area 50 to 100 yards from where you ball came to rest. Play a provisional ball where you crossed into the penalty area, then look for your ball in the penalty area, if the ball isn't found or can't be played, your provisional ball is in play.
Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Green such as a green side sprinkler head
- If a sprinkler head is within 2 club lengths of the putting green AND the sprinkler head is in your intended line of play AND your ball is within 2 clubs of the sprinkler head, you are entitled to free relief. Relief is the closest point where the sprinkler head does not interfere with the line of play (drop your ball within one club length from the point of relief no closer to the flag).
Waste Areas vs. Sand Traps (@Murphy Creek)
-
Waste Areas DO NOT have rakes in them as they are waste areas, the player may ground the club - when done, smooth ground with your foot and/or club.
-
Sand Traps DO have rakes in or around them, the player may not ground the club - when done, smooth ground with the rake provided.
Sprinkler Heads near the greens
- If a sprinkler head is within 2 club lengths of the edge of a green and your ball is within 2 club lengths of the sprinkler head, and the sprinkler head is in your intended line of play you are entitled to free relief. To take relief you pick the closest point of relief, no closer to the pin and drop your ball.
Penalty Areas Adjacent to the Out of Bounds
- If a player's ball clearly crossed a red-lined or staked area as it headed toward an out of bounds marker or boundary fence, the player should hit a provisional ball before leaving the spot where the original ball was hit from. If there is clear visual evidence that the ball crossed through the penalty area and then crossed the out of bounds marker or boundary fence and remained out of bounds, the player should play his provisional ball and proceed under the rules applicable to a ball that has been hit out of bounds. Clear visual evidence is an unobstructed view by the player or at least one of his fellow competitors of the ball flying past the out of bounds marker or boundary fence and remained out of bounds.
- If there was no clear visual evidence that the ball crossed the out of bounds marker or boundary fence, and the player cannot positively identify his ball as being out of bounds, and the ball isn't found in the penalty area, the ball shall be assumed to have been lost in the penalty area, and the player must proceed under the rules applicable to a lost ball in a penalty area.
Out-of-Bounds and Lost Balls
- If there is any doubt as to whether a player’s ball may be lost or out of bounds, the player should play a provisional ball from the place where the original ball was hit before moving forward to look.
- There is a 3-minute time limit when looking for a lost ball.
- If more than one player's ball is lost, players involved should look for each lost ball simultaneously.
- If the player’s ball isn’t found and the player DID NOT hit a provisional ball, then the player should drop a ball at the nearest spot in the fairway no closer to the flag from where the ball went out of bounds or is presumed to be lost (not within a penalty area), with a penalty of 2 strokes. If your ball could be out of bounds or lost outside of a penalty area, we recommend you play a provisional ball before moving forward to look, be sure you notify your opponent or playing partners that you are hitting a provisional ball before hitting the provisional ball.
- Under no circumstances should a player go back to hit another ball from the previous location.
Unplayable Lies
-
In the event that a ball is deemed unplayable: 1) The player may drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the unplayable ball, not nearer the hole, with a penalty of 1 stroke; OR 2) If the player cannot get relief within 2 club lengths, the player can drop as far back as he wants, keeping the point of the unplayable lie in line with the flag stick; with a penalty of 1 stroke. If neither of the two options ,1 or 2, doesn't allow a playable lie and the player DID NOT hit a provisional ball, then he must go the fairway equal-distant from the flag as the original ball lay and drop ball with a penalty of 2 strokes.
- Under no circumstances should a player go back to hit another ball from the previous location.

Pace of Play
Your position on the golf course is directly behind the group in front of you.
NOT directly in front of the group behind you!
How do I know if my pace of play is slow?
Your group is behind if you are on the tee box of a . . .
- Par 3 and no one is on the green
- Par 4 and the group in front of you is on the green (or gone)
- Par 5 and any member of the group in front of you is on the green
-
Pace of Play Policy
- All groups MUST scan the QR Code at the completion of Hole 9 and Hole 18, before totaling scores.
- Any group that is missing a QR Code scan for either the 9th Hole or 18th Hole will be assessed a 1 stroke penalty for each missing scan. The penalty will be assessed and added to group's scores for the 18th hole.
- Monitor your pace with the QR codes on #5 tee, #7 tee, #13 tee, and #16 tee. There is also a code on #1 tee to provide a true tee off time if the hole is backed up.
- All groups are expected to finish the front nine in 2:20 and finish the entire 18 holes in 4:45.
- All members of any group that finishes the front nine in 2:21 or more AND is 15 minutes or more behind the group directly in front of them will be assessed a 1-stroke penalty. If the penalized group finishes the back nine 15 minutes or less behind the group in front of them OR under 4:46, the penalty will be withdrawn.
- ALL members of any group that finishes the eighteen holes in 4:46 or more AND is 15 minutes or more behind the group directly in front of them will be assessed a 1-stroke penalty.
- The 1st two groups MUST finish in 4:45 or better, or each player will be assessed the above penalties.
- Each player will be allowed one pace of play warning. After that, each pace of play penalty for that player will increase by 1 stroke. Missing QR code scans will always be a flat one stroke penalty no matter how many pace of play penalties have been assessed in the past.
- Each member of the group is responsible for maintaining a proper Pace of Play.
- Tournament results will not be official until the Pace of Play is reviewed.
-
Pace of Play Appeals
- If you feel you were incorrectly penalized for pace of play, you have 24 hours after the tournament results email has been sent to appeal.
- The appeal MUST be sent to tournament_director@sr-mc.com with a description of why you feel the penalty should be rescinded.
- It is recommended that you scan QR codes throughout the course to show proof of your group’s pace; especially on hole #16 if you have a group “sprinting” in front of your group.
